How to Install a Glue-Down Engineered Hardwood Floor

Hardwood flooring adds warmth and beauty to any room, and is also a great way to increase the value of your home. At Lowe's, you will find a variety of hardwood flooring styles and colors, from domestic species like Oak and Maple to exotics like Brazilian Cherry and Bamboo. Engineered flooring can be installed on any level of the home, but different installation methods are necessary for different types of subfloors. For this project you will need engineered hardwood planks, transitions and moldings, flooring adhesive, trowel, hardwood flooring cleaner, circular saw, table saw, dead blow hammer, spacers, hammer, wood glue and finish nails.

Before starting make sure that you have 2 days to complete this project. Once the boards are installed, you can not walk on them for 24 hours. Be sure to also bring the boards into the room so they can acclimate to the rooms temperature and humidity. To begin, pour the glue on the ground. Using a trowel, span the glue out. Lay the flooring, using spacers along the wall edges for the moldings. With the tongue side out begin to attach the planks together. Tap each board together with a dead blow hammer and tapping block to secure the boards. Continue until there is enough room to leave the project to let the glue dry.

Once the glue is dry, finish laying the flooring. If you need to cut the boards to fit, do so now. Once the last row is attached, install the transitions and moldings using wood glue and finish nails. Use hardwood cleaner to remove any excess glue and you're done. A new floor to add value to your home for years to come. For more helpful tips visit http://www.Lowes.com.
